I’m dedicating the month of September to prepping for an October gargle sale.
As a sign of good faith, I jumpstarted my cleaning efforts last Friday when I attacked our two junk rooms. Yes, two. I only had the length of Emme’s afternoon nap to kickstart my cleaning spree, but I made some serious headway, filling a huge trash bag within minutes. Ultimately, I cleaned out my wedding binder (yeah, still had it), t-shirt collection (from middle school through law school…yeah, there were lots of t-shirts) and even my work suits dating back to 1997 (I will miss you, Size 2P).
To the casual outsider these rooms would still qualify for “Hoarders,” but we can see the progress. Dan’s weight bench that was once covered in baby clothes is now fully visible and functional! He’d grown weary over these past few months as he’d clear some space only to walk into the room and find more baby gear stacked atop his equipment.
I did hit a snag in my plans when I got a call Friday night asking me to clear out my office nursery. Dan and I went in Saturday and packed everything up. I’d been putting it off, because we had nowhere to put all the duplicated baby gear. Luckily, my Friday cleaning freed some space.
Work obligations providing, my daily goal is to spend at least one of Emme’s naps cleaning those rooms. I’d like it to culminate in a ginormous Goodwill run this weekend. While I know the clothes would sell well at the garage sale, they’re a major pain in the butt to arrange. I’ve had so many garage sales where people have picked over the clothing so haphazardly that latecomers won’t wade through the stacks. Plus, I’d rather give the clothes to people who need them most. While the casual clothes will go to Goodwill, I’ll donate the suits to The Women’s Home. I’m researching Project Prom-like organizations for my formal dresses. (If you have any referrals, I’d appreciate it!)
Once the garage sale is over, what’s left will be donated, eBayed and Craigslisted. My ultimate goal is to have the rooms functioning as their intended uses before Thanksgiving. It would be nice to have guest rooms where guests can actually stay. #kow
Here’s hoping I stick to my plan. If not, I will be an internet jive turkey.
And I’d have to change my blog domain to blobbleblobble.com
